Swinging Lanterns

This large oil painting of Swinging Lanterns is about light.
The subtext is change. I think I might have seen a black and white Japanese film from the fifties that informed this idea.
My living in Taipei with its Japanese influence a few years ago brought to mind this image one might see outside a restaurant in a back street.
The glazes used make the colour glow from behind.
